Now that I have been coaching for almost 10 years, I realize there are many areas in which I wish I had been better equipped when I started out. Coaching Foundation
The foundation stage is where we learn about what coaching is, its relation to other helping professions, its history, different applications, and the science and ethical considerations behind coaching. We familiarize ourselves with coaching competencies and learn how the leading governing bodies in the world define them. We also start getting our hands a little dirty by looking at the anatomy of a coaching session, so that we can also understand the concepts of embodying the coaching mindset, contracting and holding presence.
Peer Coaching
During Foundation, you will learn the anatomy of a coaching session. In this section, you and your classmates will dissect your own and each other’s coaching in an open and non-judgmental environment. Practicing coaching is an ongoing learning journey that will last far beyond this program, so setting yourself up with the habit of analyzing your own practice will help you master the art of coaching far sooner. During peer coaching, you will continue with the following learning modules and apply what you learn as you go.
Coaching Skills
While you are coaching, you will be learning new skills and practicing them as you coach along. These skills are the type that will serve you in every facet of your personal and professional life. The skills of effective listening and communication, feedback, and powerful questioning are core skills that will change how you look at the world. The ability to ask the right question requires developing a growth mindset, one of continuous curiosity that leaves no room for judgement. By learning and embracing these skills, you will complete our program with a new perspective on the world.
Coaching Models and Frameworks
Emotional Intelligence. Neuroscience. Appreciative Inquiry. Systems Thinking. Learn about the vast array of models and frameworks, test them all, and incorporate elements in your own practice as you and your client see fit.
The Business of Coaching
Whether you decide to sell coaching services, use coaching in your current job, or develop an in-house coaching program, you have to sharpen your influence skills. Learn how to best position yourself and your practice.
We will give you a website, design it with your input, and run it for the duration of your coaching education with us. You will provide the content, and we will teach you how to position it across the web.
We will also teach you how to be operationally efficient and use a system that will eventually run itself, or with the help of an administrative assistant (when you are ready, of course). You will see that keeping track of your learning, feedback, and casework in an efficient manner will prove invaluable if your coaching reaches scalability (and frankly, why wouldn’t it?)
